In the early 1950s, Roger Moore was a model and earned the nickname ‘The Big Knit’ after he appeared in advertisements for knitwear. However, he soon gained attention on television when starring in the Ivanhoe series before becoming an international star with The Saint. From 1971 to 1972, he played opposite Tony Curtis in the cult playboy’s adventures show, The Persuaders. In 1973, the British actor was chosen to incarnate the famous spy, James Bond, in Live and Let Die, a role he reprised six times in such features as The Spy Who Loved Me, in 1977 and Octopussy, in 1983, therefore becoming the longest-serving James Bond actor. Since Roger Moore remains the iconic debonair seducer who combined a very witty and phlegmatic British humour with a true elegance – sartorial and moral.
Roger Moore has died at the age of 89.
