Bill Maynard, perhaps most famous for his role as Greengrass in the long running TV police drama ‘Heartbeat’, has died at the age of 89.
He starred as the character Greengrass from 1992 until 2000, reprising the role for several episodes of the spin off show ‘The Royal’ in 2003.
Bill also stood against Tony Benn in the 1984 by election in Chesterfield to prevent Benn returning to parliament, however he only came fourth and Benn retained the seat.
Bill died in hospital following a fall when he broke his hip.
